Mike and Stuart Belbas

Mike and I have been flying in one form or another for almost 25 years, from aeroplanes and helicopters to paragliders and hang-gliders. We started flying light aircraft when we were 17, acquiring our Private Pilots Licence before we could even drive a car. Every form of aviation has always excited us, but our biggest passion by far when it comes to flying has always been paragliding and nothing puts a bigger smile on my face than getting to share that passion with other people.

We have worked professionally in the paragliding industry for almost 20 years from teaching and instructor training, testing gliders, SIV trainers, acro trainers and even working with testing paragliders for the DHV. We have worked on film sets as stunt pilots and travelled the world on numerous expeditions being the first people to fly in a number of remote places and the first people to cross the Kalahari dessert by powered paraglider. In short we get a thrill from everything to do with paragliding and when we are not teaching people to paraglide here in Verbier, we are usually off flying for ourselves somewhere.

Creating a paragliding school of our own

In 2003, a dream came true for us when we opened our own paragliding school in our favourite place in the world, the Swiss Alps. Our philosophy when founding Verbier Summits was to create the best place in the world to learn to paraglide, with the safest teaching practices, in the most beautiful environment and with the best team possible. Almost 15 years later, I believe that we still meet that brief!

Mike and I have almost 20 years of Alpine experience and over 12,000hours airtime each.

‘Stu and Mike are the most smiley people I have ever met…flying with Verbier-Summits was the best holiday of my life’
